Finally, a weekly community challenge for Power BI Users. Here is a step-by-step guide for how I did the first challenge. Beginners welcome!

As a Power BI user, I always felt a little left out when looking at the fun data viz challenges happening over in the Tableau Community (e.g. Makeover Monday, Iron Viz, Workout Wednesday).

While I would participate in these challenges from time to time using Power BI, it was difficult to stay engaged with a community that was speaking in a largely different language.

But now, I am THRILLED to share that Workout Wednesday will be adding weekly Power BI challenges this year!!! Thank you Spencer Baucke for making this happen!

It looks like the initial challenge is fairly basic and this seems to be a great way for new Power BI users to get up to speed. There will also be walkthrough solution videos posted each Sunday. Beginners, this is your chance to learn Power BI with a community to support you! As the challenges ramp up in difficulty, I can’t wait to see what people come up with!

If you are new to Power BI, here is a step-by-step tutorial of how I completed the Week 1 Challenge.

SO, without further ado, here we go!

Step 2: Connect Power BI and data.world

There is a prebuilt connection between Power BI and data.world so that you can load in data directly from data.world — nifty stuff!

When you open Power BI, select “Get Data” and then choose the Data.World connector.

Data.World — Get Data connector.

If you don’t want to connect directly to data.world, you can export the data from…
